The Pilot Core Tool is used with the Easy Petrol Post Driver to remove a core of earth out of the ground prior to driving in your stakes; this makes it much easier to complete the job in any condition - whether the ground is bone dry & hard, or stony & rocky - the use of this Pilot Core Tool will speed up the overall time of driving your new post home.
It will increase your productivity driving home 90mm - 100mm diameter posts and the tool itself is very durable thanks to the heat treated cutting head.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Fit the 107mm round adapter to the Easy Petrol Post Driver.
Slide the Spacer Collar onto the 107mm round adapter and affix with provided bungees.
Drive the Pilot Core Tool into the required post location.
Drive to a depth of 150mm (6”) less than the required post depth.
Insert the T-Bar horizontally into the Pilot Core Tool. Use a stake as a lever, then Twist & Pull to remove the Core of Earth.
If the ground is very dry, add water to the newly made hole and to soak for at least 5 minutes.
The ground is now prepared to drive your stakes with the Easy Petrol Post Driver.

Delivery by carrier

For most purchases of £120 inc VAT and over, we offer FREE delivery via carrier to UK mainland except for the Highlands and islands (priced separately by postcode). However, we only deliver ride-on mowers locally and use our own vehicles to do this, see below.

PLEASE NOTE - We are unable to offer delivery to Northern Ireland for many of our machines and accessories; we may have to cancel and refund your order if we are unable to complete this for you.

For purchases of less than £120 inc VAT, there is a small charge of £6 inc VAT

Aspen fuel deliveries will incur an £18 inc VAT delivery surcharge.

Westermann brush deliveries will incur a £36 inc VAT delivery surcharge.

We will contact you if any other charge might apply based on location or product.

Our delivery service is operated by contracted carriers.

Larger boxed items would normally be delivered to you the next working day after shipping. This is a very reliable service and whilst most customers receive their goods the next working day it is not absolutely guaranteed as carriers can have logistical problems.

Smaller items that are shipped in packets for instance, will be posted and should arrive in 2-3 days. If you need these items sooner, please call us and we will endeavour to help where possible.

Please note that delivery can be anytime between 8am and 6pm Monday-Friday. If you need your delivery to be made in a specific time slot, please call us to discuss the options available.

Next working day delivery is subject to the goods being in stock at our warehouse. Please call us to check availability if it is an urgent order.

The task at hand

The searing heat this summer may have put paid to some jobs in and around your farm, yet replacing fence posts that are rotten, or damaged from escaped cattle, is one you are unable to simply ‘do tomorrow’.

A stumbling block faced by all, especially during the summer, is the relentless effort required to manually hammer a post into dry, hard ground. Or if you’re using your tractor mounted post driver, actually finding a moment where this is available within these hectic months is arguably harder than finding a winning lottery ticket! It’s a nightmare, we know, we’ve been there...

When a new customer purchases our Easy Petrol Post Driver, it surprises us how many just assume the machine isn’t powerful enough to drive 4” (or smaller) posts into dry and hard ground (because it is powerful enough). It’s only when we talk through the process with them do they recognise just how easy the job can be.

As a result, we thought we would share with you the process of driving a fence post into dry or hard ground.

Bonus: this also works for heavy clay or chalk ground as well.

Equipment required: Easy Petrol Post Driver and Pilot Core Tool

What is the Pilot Core Tool first of all?

The Pilot Core Tool is a 1 metre long hollow bar which enables you to remove a core of earth out of the ground prior to driving in your stakes. Precisely designed to work on bone dry and hard ground, the cutting head has been heat treated, making it more durable and hard-wearing.

Step 1 Fit the 107mm adapter to the Easy Petrol Post Driver and slide the space collar onto the Pilot Core Tool.

Step 2 Using the Easy Petrol Post Driver, drive the Pilot Core Tool in the required location to around a depth of 150mm (6”) less than the required post depth. Pro tip: wrap some tape around the core tool to show exactly where you need to drive to.

Step 3 Once complete you can set the post driver down (don’t worry you can leave the Honda engine ticking over in idle mode it’s not fuel thirsty). Then insert the T-Bar (included) horizontally into the Pilot Core Tool. Using a stake as a lever, release the core tool from the ground. Twist and pull with the T-Bar when you’re just about out.

Step 4 Your ground is now all set. You can tip the contents of the core tool away and crack on with driving in your posts. Pro tip: fill the hole with water and leave to soak; this makes the soil soft and moist which adds to the ease of driving in your stakes.

Step 5 Remove the Space Collar from the 107mm adapter for driving 4” posts (or switch to whichever adapter is required for your post size). Then drive your post into the hole you’ve just created.
